SLIM announces Audiophile Music Server

Slim announced the new Transporter today. It would be a shame to call this a high end Squeezebox, since it doesn't appear to share the same critical components with the SB3.

The technical specs are pretty incredible. Check out the word clock support, the amazing range of digital inputs and outputs, and the specs on the DAC. Man, I really really want one. Is $1999 too high? I don't think so given the range of features, but I sure would like to see one around $1200 that doesn't need to have all the word clock and home automation support, or even a built in DAC, since most of us may consider using our external DACS.

If I can get my hands on one, I'll be happy to report the findings compared to my hotrodded SB3.

This is critical part of the chain for getting good sound out of your PC. Your PC is a terrible environment for a sensitive little audio signal. It is filled with electronic and mechanical noise and interference that can wreak all kinds of havoc on your music. The stock sound card that came with your PC does very little to eliminate this noise, and will pass it right along to your stereo. Good sound cards, however, will do their best to isolate the music from the noise. This is a big reason why audiophiles tend to prefer external USB or Firewire sound cards to internal cards. The signal is transferred via USB and where the interference is minimalised. Now you've got something you can work with.

The Computer Audiophile readership ranges from absolute expert to absolute audiofool. It doesn't matter to me where you are on this continuum. I like when the experts answer questions and when the audiofools ask questions the experts have too much pride to ask.

Anyone seriously considering the Olive O6HD should read the forums that have discussed the failings of the previous 04HD. Owners complain, not about the sound, but about the worthless user interface, the primitive Olive iPhone app, and the fact that backup is a proprietary Olive format. If you don't stick with Olive, and you've backed up using only their system, you lose the music unless you send the machine back to Olive. They've got you and your money.

I hardly leave remarks, however i did some searching and wound
up here "SLIM announces Audiophile Music Server".
And I do have a few questions for you if you usually do not mind.
Could it be just me or does it look like some of these remarks
look like written by brain dead folks? :-P And, if you are writing on additional online social sites, I would like
to follow everything fresh you have to post.
Would you make a list of the complete urls of all your social
sites like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

Hey! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering
which blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting sick and tired of Wordpress because I've
had problems with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
